The read
Our editorial read
Insomniac's spring Alice-in-Wonderland festival at San Bernardino's NOS Events Center: two nights, six themed stages, and a bill that swings from trance to hardstyle.
The full editorial
Beyond Wonderland SoCal is the festival that opens Southern California's rave year. It runs two nights in late March at the NOS Events Center, a 120-acre fairground in San Bernardino, and it is built around an Alice in Wonderland theme: costumed characters, tea-party sets, and stages named Queen's Domain, Mad Hatter's Castle, Cheshire Woods, Caterpillar's Garden, The Looking Glass and Sea of Wonder. The booking is wider than the theme suggests. One stage runs trance and psytrance, another is hardstyle for Basscon fans, another is techno, and the main stages mix big-room sets from the likes of Tiësto and Zedd with bass headliners. That spread is the draw: you can move from Gareth Emery to Sullivan King in ten minutes. Six main stages plus smaller pop-up areas sit close together, so walking is easier than at a stadium show, though sound can bleed between neighbors. The hours are long, roughly 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a paid afterparty until 6 a.m., and the venue is asphalt and dirt, so March weather decides a lot. Bring layers and expect rain-or-shine rules. The crowd skews young and 18-plus, heavy on kandi, bass and hard-dance fans, with an Inland Empire and LA mix. Lines at the gate and the NOS lots back up early; the Metrolink special trains and official shuttles are the sane way in from LA. It is worth it because Insomniac treats this as a production showpiece: each stage has a real identity, the characters stay in character all weekend, and the whole thing is friendlier and less bro-heavy than its size suggests.
Go if
- Bass, hardstyle and trance fans who want all three in one weekend
- Groups who want themed production and long, late hours
- Inland Empire and LA ravers who want a city-adjacent festival without camping
Skip if
- You need warm, dry weather and a seated, relaxed weekend
- You hate costume-heavy crowds and loud main stages
- You want grass, trees and a camping festival
Inside the festival
A costume-heavy Alice theme over a working fairground: six stages, long nights, big production and a young Inland Empire crowd.
18+ and young; kandi kids, bass and hardstyle fans, trance regulars, and plenty of group costumes.

Worth it for / the catch
Worth it for
- Six distinct themed stages with real production budgets; the castle mainstage and Sea of Wonder are the standouts.
- A broad booking where trance, hardstyle, techno, house and bass all have a home, so groups can split up and reunite.
- A 2 a.m. finish plus an onsite afterparty until 6 a.m. for people who want the whole night.
- Easier to navigate than a stadium festival; the stages sit close together on one fairground.
- Metrolink special trains give LA and Orange County riders a car-free option.
The catch
- March weather in San Bernardino is unpredictable, and rain or shine can mean mud and cold nights.
- Sound bleed between neighboring stages was noticeable in 2026.
- The event can feel oversold; the 2024 edition drew fence-jumpers and crowding complaints.
- Long days on asphalt and dirt, with hot afternoons and cold nights.
- Prices climb quickly by tier; late two-day GA reportedly reached $309.98 for 2026.
